Re: Strolling & tipping customs



Seems to me I recall a story by an old-timer (perhaps it was Leon Schwartz?)
telling how people would come up and push money into the f-holes of the
double-bass.  The story went that one bassist had made a little door in the
back of the instrument to remove the tip money.  It was customary for the
one who requested the tune to tip the musicians.  Perhaps Yosl Kurland
recalls the details??

(I've experienced the bill on the forehead while playing klezmer in a Greek
restaurant.  Since I'm an accordionist, it wasn't necessary to moisten the
bill first.)
