It sounds like you are referring to a song called "Oyfn Veg 
Shteyt a Boym" (On The Way, Stands a Tree).  I don't know 
if there is a recording of this but you will find the words 
and music in a collection called, "Mir Tkrogn a Gezang" 
which is published by the Workmen's Circle Educational 
Department.
