Izzy Kidding?

I finally broke down and watched "In the Fiddler's House," the PBS program
chronicling Ithak Perlman's adventures in Klezmerdom. Am I the only one, or
does anyone else who saw the program believe that while the klezmer groups were
wonderful, ol' Izzy was making a fool of himself? His belated foray into a
genre of music that has thrived in revival without him for over a decade was
embarassing. His wonderment over improvisational sensibilites was the musical
equivalent of George Bush's "Scannergate." If any musicians who appeared on
this program with Perlman are lurking out there, was working with him actually
enjoyable?!?
