Dear friends!
I am new on this list,[...] We would
be very happy, if we could help a little bit to preserve the yiddish
cultural
asset in Europe, by practicing yiddish music.
Our big problem is to find good sources of yiddish music in Denmark or
Germany. We are interested in finding songs (one or two singers as well as
choir) and instrumental accompaniments also for bigger music groups
including all possible instruments. Unfortunately, we are not able to read
hebrew letters. I am sure anyone can help us. Please write!

I would love to help you but I am not sure what you are looking for. Is it
written instrumental sheet music, or choral arrangements, or folios, or
recordings you can listen to and pick up the music by ear? I play in a
Klezmer band, and we get our instrumental and vocal repertoire from all
kinds of sources, including sheet music, recordings, other musicians,
music and dance camps, concerts, etc. I realize you don't have the same
resources where you are.
I work in a music store, the House of Musical Traditions. I would be happy
to e-mail you a listing I have compiled of Klezmer, Yiddish, Israeli, and
other Eastern European and related musics. It lists both books and
recordings available by mail order from us. If you would like this, please
send me a note at hmtrad (at) cais(dot)com (not the address I am mailing you
from
now).
I think what you are trying to do, preserve Yiddish culture in an area
where it has been almost completely lost, is very praiseworthy. Please
continue in your efforts. Are you in touch at all with, or do you know of,
Alan Bern, the pianist and accordion player in the Klezmer band Brave Old
World, who I believe still lives in Berlin? Maybe he could help you out.
Someone on the newsgroup will know how to contact him; for all I know he
may already be online.
Hope this helps
Wendy
