Re: Info. on "the Jewish Mikado"?



As I recall, quite a few years ago, a kosher Japanese(!) restaurant in 
New York City -- which claimed to be the only one of its kind in the 
United States -- featured regular dinner-theatre performances of the 
Mikado in Yiddish.  Naturally, these were with Jewish actors, and W.S. 
Gilbert's deathless lines were adapted to Yiddish culture.

A short, *wild* excerpt of the performance even appeared on television -- 
possibly as part of a segment on George Schlatter's old NBC series Real 
People.
