Ron Agam's Show

Althogh it's not really music, but I guess you would not mind knowing of
this.

> "At the Wall: Photographs by Ron Agam"

> "At the Wall," an exhibition of thirty photographs by Ron Agam,
> son of the artist Yaacov Agam, will be on view at Magidson Fine
> Art from May 18 until June 5. Photographed in 1993 in Jerusalem
> at the Western Wall and in the religious neighborhood of Mea
> Shearim, these timeless portrayals, bathed in the yellow desert
> light, depict moments of leisure and of intense personal
> devotion. So private are the Hasidim, Agam's primary focus,
> that they will display hostility toward anyone that tries to
> photograph them. The element of danger and defiance involved
> in creating many of these images is captured in the spontaneity
> and immediacy of several shots taken using a hidden camera on
> a tripod.

> There is gentleness and subtle, delightful humor in these
> colorful prints--in the faces of the little Hasidic boys and in
> the longing of an old man staring at a bakery window filled
> with enticing pastries. The mysterious and beautiful Falasha
> children from Ethiopia and the bustling Arab marketplace convey
> the diversity and vibrancy of life in Jerusalem. The absence of
> women is noticeable, reflecting their less visible role in this
> society.

> The work is somewhat photojournalistic in nature--because of
> the fleeting quality of many of the images and also because of
> their lack of artifice. "It was the specificity of this
> people's experience, the sense of their living in a world
> completely apart, that I wanted to capture," muses Agam. "I was
> also, of course, drawn to the expressive and emotional
> qualities of their faces, their beauty, and hope my pictures
> represent something positive that will bring out the best in
> people." It is in this spirit that we present this moving and
> provocative exhibition.

Request by Ron Agam:

> I have an exhibition of my photography at the Magidson Gallery,

> adjoining the press release that was written about the show.
> Also If you have this week The Jewish Week, on page 39 there
> is an article on me and the show. If you feel it is of interest
> to your readers, maybe you would like to publicize it through
> your organization.
