"study war no more" is really a pretty close translation of "lo yilm'du
od milchama", so it makes awfully good sense.
I want to say I remember that from when I was in CAFTY, CA Federation
of Temple Youth, in '59 - '61, but I can't be sure. That group was big
on seeing how many tunes we could use for "Hine mah tov" -- like to
the tune of "Deep in the heart of Texas" -- so it would have been in
character. Of course, that's not to say it began there, anyway, just
that I think it goes back at least that far.
