Oh, gosh Bob, just about everything is available on CD! Israeli rock
spans the gamut from folkies like the Parvarim, the techno-funk.
There is even a rap song on Ariel Zilber's most recent album. I'd say
just hang out and see what people talk about, then see what's in your
local record stores or Judaica shop--or get a catalog from Hataklit
(1-800-hataklit) and see what you like.
The three original Poogy albums are on CD, by the way. Each comes with
"bonus tracks"--home recordings taken at the time of the recordings.
The first album still holds up, but the last two are even worse than
I remember--and the bonus tracks? Well, having heard them, I'm glad
I didn't have to listen to what they left out!
This week I've been mostly listening to Mazi Cohen and Shlomo Gronich.
Last week I tried really, really hard to get into Mashina 7. I don't
=dislike= the album, but it really didn't make an impression on me.
We'll see how I feel next year.
Other recent messages have mentioned Shlomo Artzi--several recordings--
Bakhom Yuli August; Luna Park, and a new one. The first two are
consensed as "killer." Opinion is divided on the new one. And definitely,
anything by Yehuda Poliker--the new album, "For your Blue eyes," is
almost entirely instrumental, and is much quieter than my faves--Ashes and
Dust or "Hurts but Less."
