[HANASHIR:4658] Re: rhythm instruments for 6th and 7th graders

I think it really depends on what instruments you choose, Beth. For
example, I would never take rhythm sticks or toy drums to a group of older
kids. I would choose a wooden bongo, a djembe, doumbek, a real tambourine,
real Orff instruments or very inexpensive egg maracas. EVERYONE loves to
play these maracas. Available in attractive colours or in black, they have
a pleasing musical tone and are very inexpensive. Since rhythm instruments
should be used to make music, not noisy, I appreciate these eggs because
they are never so noisy that they offend the ear. (With younger kids I
bring enough for everyone since waiting can cause a lot of stress.) BTW,
they can be ordered very cheaply from Empire Music which has a web-site.
