In reply to part of this recent posting of Karen Daniel's, I'd like to mention
something that my husband and I have been tossing around. We know enough
people in and around Worcester who we think would be interested in attending
what we call a house concert, here in our home. We've already begun talking
to Laura Berkson (and will continue the conversation when she visits in a few
weeks...that's for you, Laura!), fellow list member, who lives in neighboring
Rhode Island, about presenting at one of these events. Why not provide our
local Jewish communities with small, intimate opportunities to hear the music
that we all love and promote? We're not sure about the money piece of this. If
we charge anything, it might be a nominal fee that would go to the artist, or
some of which might help to pay for chair rentals, if necessary. Maybe on a
Saturday night....have a Havdalah service, and maybe some dessert and coffee,
and a lovely evening of music. It doesn't always have to be huge concerts with
big or somewhat big names. Not that that isn't wonderful and worth attending.
But, small is ok, too.
Any thoughts on the subject? Anyone ever tried this and have advice?
Regards,
Ellen Allard
