[HANASHIR:4125] Re: Universal Jewish Music License-

(Steve Brodsky wrote:)

"We've got to create a culture among the families and children whom we
teach/lead/perform for that it's IMPORTANTto fill their homes with Jewish
 music,
books, videos, ceremonial objects, art, etc... and that it may just be worth
spending a little more to do so. As far as accessibility, in this age of the
internet anyone with a computer can order a ton of Jewish music and have it
 delivered overnight...."

Ok, here I go putting my foot in my mouth...but, c'est la vie. It's for a good
cause. Please don't kill the messenger.

I must comment that here in Nashville, Christian music is a huge, huge
industry. Know why? Because PEOPLE BUY THE CD'S OF THE ARTISTS! AND they
listen to the songs on the radio! Proudly! They have their radios tuned in to
these radio stations. Kids, teenagers as well as mature adults! They are not
embarrassed to listen to songs about finding God, etc. I have to tell you that
kids in my 6th grade Sunday School classes have informed me that they listen to
these stations and songs, but are reluctant to listen to anything Jewish. The
issue of exposing kids (AND adults! Jewish music is NOT just for tots!) is very
very relevant.

Unfortunately, it's often an uphill battle. Jewish organizations, at least
here in Nashville, tend to not support Jewish musical groups, but instead, are
interested in using the various Judaic venues to provide a more secular brand
of entertainment. If that is their message to the community, how can we expect
our kids to want to listen to Jewish music?

And by the way, I agree that prices of Jewish music are definitely NOT higher
than other recordings. But to some people, it seems, having to pay anything at
all is too much.
