[HANASHIR:4164] In-House Concerts

<<< (a concert at someone's house) on Saturday night....have a Havdalah
service, and maybe some dessert and coffee,
and a lovely evening of music. It doesn't always have to be huge concerts with
big or somewhat big names. Not that that isn't wonderful and worth attending.
But, small is ok, too.

Any thoughts on the subject? Anyone ever tried this and have advice?>>

Ellen - there is a lovely couple here in Austin, Bruce and Liz Rouse, who
have been sponsoring monthly "Rouse House" concerts for many years (I
recently asked you if Terry Allard, an upcoming guest, was related to you
guys!) They send out a pre-paid order form via email which includes lots
of information about the guest, and an actual form to mail in to reserve a
spot (usual cost: $8). The Rouses pay for simple desserts and coffee and
100% of the money goes directly to the artist. They also pass a hat -
concert-goers often kick in even more money.

Needless to say, in this kind of an intimate setting, the artists are
"unplugged." Afterwards, people often stay and jam with the artist, or
each other. All product sales go to the artist, of course - Steve Brodsky
told me that an artist can expect to sell product to about 10% of the house
- in this setting, it's closer to 100% These concerts are very popular and
sellout quickly - and the artist will often do a second concert in this
case. Bruce and Liz Rouse get some pretty big names, as well as up and
coming newbies. It is an intimate and lovely way to spread the music! I
will privately forward their email address, and I bet they will be willing
to share info and insights with you. I'll also privately forward their
next concert announcement (it's a very select group, as you can imagine.)

Coffee, a nosh, a bunch of comfy chairs.... email reservations....what
could be easier?
