Hi. I aprreciated your note. Does Hava Nashira have a mailing list? I would
like to be notified of its activities and workshops. Thank Margie

Subject: [HANASHIR:3575] List Discussion
Date: Thu, 22 Jul 1999 21:29:49 -0500

Hanashir has always been a freewheeling list, and, as the owner of the list,
I have always been reluctant to restrain discussion. So I'm not going to say
that the current discussion is inappropriate and has strayed perhaps a bit
far from the primary list purpose, but I hope that all of you will simply
take the fact that I am writing this message as a reminder to be
self-disciplined about your usage of the list. I will continue to allow the
list to seek and find its own level of what is and is not appropriate
discussion-but-when enough people write to me privately to express concerns
and reservations, then I will have little choice but to respond. So please
everyone-think before you hit that send button.

I must also emphatically take exception to Joel Siegel's contention that
because this list is an outgrowth of the Hava Nashira workshop, which is
sponsored by a UAHC camp, that this list must therefore reflect its Reform
roots. This list is grateful to OSRUI, and to the UAHC, which allows this
list to be hosted as part of their web presence. I would hope that these
organizations do not view this list as any form of outreach or proselytizing
for Reform, but rather take the more altruistic view that it is a service to
all the Jewish community and to Jewish music.

Participants at Hava Nashira, and indeed, the staff at Hava Nashira (and
OSRUI itself) have always reflected a diversity of Jewish observance and
practice and this list wishes to maintain that tradition and favor no one
voice over any other.
