[HANASHIR:3546] Re: Lecha Dodi

regarding lecha dodi- the verses have mystical meaning, each one of the
ascending planes of existence leading to the final release of the
spirit, similar to the coming of the messiah or the arrival of the
sabbath queen. the mystics would walk the fields of sefad and return to
the synagogue to sing that prayer. There is even one verse that welcomes
the queen, and the congregation turns to greet her as she enters the
congregation.

of course it is hard to do that any other time but shabbes evening and
keep respect for the meaning and the lineage of the prayer.

if people dont know and only want to feel good, we could put some more
water the the soup and dilute our cultural inheritance some more.

al capp wrote success is acheiving what you wnat, there are lots of
successful people in the world. but you have to admit their success
threshold is very low.

with a reduced liturgy and a limited knowlege of the musical heritage,
no wonder some kid would ask for lcha dodi for the morning, and no
wonder a kind rabbi would agree.
but it is a bad sign.

as for the legal fiction of because havdalah til turesday, so why not, i
say two things.
first, even if a guest is staying for 4 days, i will not introduce
myself as a stranger on the next morning.
Second, my guess is that this congregation wasn't observing shabbes til
tuesday.
