[HANASHIR:3510] Re: DavkaWriter 2000?

Steve et al,

I have been using DavkaWriter for about a year. I got it to upgrade my
capabilities from Dagesh Lite. To give answers to each of your questions:

>* is it reliable?
>* is Davka's technical support good?

I have found it reliable; I have had two problems:
   a. You can't type a regular shin without a dagesh, because the key
combination (ctrl-shin-WITH-a-dagesh) is also a ctrl-p, which is the hot
key for printing; you have to use the mouse to point and click from the
on-screen keyboard;
   b. After I upgraded my PC, I had to reinstall DavkaWriter,
necessitating a call to Davka Tech Support for the serial number I had lost.

In each case, I found Davka tech support to be surly and/or arrogant.

>* is it as easy as Davka says it is?
It's fairly easy. I have a little trouble with a) tables, and b) precise
alignment on margins. But, to be fair, I had the same trouble with Dagesh!

>* does it do all the things Davka says it does?
>* can it easily be imported into Microsoft Word documents?
As far as I know, yes. I don't do everything with it that it claims to do,
including importing into Word.

>* is it impressive, and would you recommend it?
I recommend it, mainly because it's a good deal for $150. I got - for no
extra charge - the complete siddur and the complete TaNaCh - both in Hebrew
- and having THOSE has has saved me a LOT of key strokes!
