I agree the tseiray is problematic. Like fairy w/o yud, like fame with
yud. We ask the kids to go for the latter, and as long as it is not like
a segol I am satisfied. Our israeli teachers of course protest and
quibble, but with the unified front of cantor and educator we do
progress. Do others have this problem with israelis who dont distinguish
between the classical hebrew of the prayerbook and tanach, and the
colloquial spoken modern hebrew? jonathan g
