<< Yom Kippur is a fast day. I cannot IMAGINE a cantor or lay leader
drinking
at the bimah while the entire congregation is sitting there, hungry and
thirsty!
The commandment is to "afflict" ourselves on the day of Yom Kippur. The
additional thirst brought on by the fast day gives it a very spiritual
meaning for me. Despite it, I have done some of my most meaningful and
heartfelt singing well into the afternoon of this very long, dry day!

Thank you. I posted my reply before reading yours. I was glad to see I
wasn't the only one offended. I, too have found my strength renewed as
neilah approaches. I've also found that the adrenaleine pumped during
services is enough to sustain me. I've always found myself to not even be
hungry after the final blast because of the amount of adrenaleine produced
during the long day of davening!
