[HANASHIR:2866] Re: lesson plans and union organizing

For first and second graders do you think this would work? Get hold of some
klezmer music, preferably a freylich with lots of excitement and lots of
eastern/gypsy feeling. Ask the kids to close their eyes and when the music
plays, to see if it makes a picture in their minds. Let it play for several
minutes before you ask for suggestions of the kinds of things they saw in
their imaginations.

Ask them to share some of their ideas about what the music inspired in them.
Maybe it sounded like a circus, or horses, or a big party or a parade. Ask
the children to draw a picture of one of the ideas, and collect them into a
klezmer display for the bulletin board.....

Fill in with some information about klezmer music, how they often travelled
from town to town to play for parties and weddings etc..... Here are the
instruments that you heard....... clarinet, trumpet etc......

There is a wide spectrum of music which could be used for this activity, but
I think Klezmer is a good place to start. It's real colorful, yes?

Also Kudos to Laura Berkson for that great information on the union
possibilities. That is a very interesting and useful piece of data. Thanks
for thinking of us.....
