Gospel is an anglo-saxon word. The latinization of the greek word used by
the early Xtian community was "evangelium" meaning "good news."  The concept
of "good news" was not invented by the Xtians and can be found in Jewish
writings!

While I think it would be nice to find a uniquely Jewish term to apply to
Jewish music performed in a gospel style, it's not like we don't have a
history of borrowing and adapting other musical styles as Jewish ones!

Am I the only one feeling some discomfort at the term "Jewish gospel", which
seems to erroneously suggest a kind of Christian Judaism?  Can anyone think
of a more accurate way to express the influence of this popular musical
style on some contemporary Jewish songwriters?
