[HANASHIR:1661] Chad Gadya Lyrics

The ending lyrics to Chava Alberstein's Chad Gadya are as follows:

And why are you singing the traditional song?
It is not spring yet and Passover is not yet here.
And what has changed for you ? What has changed?
I have changed this year.
On all the other nights I asked only the four traditional questions.
Tonight, I have one more question - how long will the cycle of horror
last.
The chased and the chaser, the beaten and the beater,
When will this madness end.
I used to be a kid and a peaceful sheep.
Today I am a tiger and a ravenous wolf.
I used to be a dove and I used to be a deer.
Today I don't know who I am anymore.

Our father bought a kid for two bits
and we start all over again.

This song was written as a protest, I believe during the time of the
intifada, and in fact, was banned in Israel for a while. It was seen as
strong criticism again the government. It is very powerful and poignant
