"Xian" is an abbreviation, commonly used among members of the Christian
groups I've studied (I looked at a number of campus Xian a cappella groups
for an ethnography project last year). The "x", as I've seen it, STANDS
for "Christ" in the sense that it's an icon for the Cross (another
example is "X-mas"). I would use "Christian," but "Xian" requires far
fewer typestrokes.

Judah.
