Re: request for advise

Dear Emily,

I've been the cantorial soloist at Temple Beth El in Fargo for going
into the third year (three HHD's). I think that the worry about
"performance" does go away. This year, for the first time, I felt like
I was singing my heart out and I really experienced some
lovely/transcendant moments. Of course, one is constantly concerned
about page numbers and what's coming next but it gets easier. What
Adrian and I have found to be of exquisite help is this...we photocopy
all of the HHD services that we are doing...we put them in binders and
stick our music in the appropriate slots. No flipping from Machzor to
music and vice versa...everything shows up in its proper spot and you
can function fairly brainlessly (right brain that is) and experience a
little of the spiritual.

As far as Shabbat services...which I do every Shabbat....again...it
becomes less stressful, less of a performance and more of an experience.
Coming to Hava Nashira helps...because, at least for me, I get to be a
congregant and sit and be surrounded by ruach and kavanah...and it feeds
my soul and fills me up for the coming year.

Hope this helps in some small way...

b'shalom
