1. So my daughter has been studiously studying from the Navigating the
Bible website, at
http://bible.ort.org/books/torahd5.asp?ACTION=displayid&id=2559 . But I
thought she might learn faster if she understood the trope. So I got
out the UAHC book on Cantillation that I bought at Hava Nashira a few
years ago, and we began to study it together. Only to discover that ...
the music is completely different! I presume that the Navigating the
Bible trope is a valid variation, so she will continue to use that one,
since she has started with it ... but I wonder if anyone can clarify
which trope system is described in the Cantillation book, and which
system is in use on the bible.ort.org website?
2. Also, I wanted to review some of the details of the Haftarah
blessings. The version on the Navigating the Bible website is different
from the one our congregation uses ... and my own knowledge of the
melody is vague in places. Is there a transcription in one of the
"usual songbooks", or a recording on another website, where I can check
out the details?
Thanks, as always, for your help,
- Ros Schwartz
