He's right, Chanukah is not one of the Shalosh Regalim ('three feet' - Sukkot, 
Pesach and Shavuot), so 'Chag Sameach' is not exactly correct, but it is a 
'festival,' so you can make the distinction by saying 'Chag Chanukah Sameach'.
