[HANASHIR:15458] how much Hebrew? in what form?

A friend of mine, an opera singer who is attempting a new start, is
interested in becoming a cantorial soloist. Her Hebrew knowledge is vary
limited and we were discussing what she might need to do to learn enough.

My tendency was to suggest taking a college level Hebrew course, since the
courses offered at the synagogue are not very in depth. I could also tutor
her some, but I thought she would do better off with a real class. A
Hebrew Ulpan (like that offered at the JCC) is another possibility.

What do you think? If you were starting from almost no Hebrew background,
what would be the most efficient route? What is sufficient? What would be
a good start?
