[HANASHIR:14740] Re: article/teaching methods thank you!! :-)

I second Raquel's suggestion. I have used both overhead transparencies, and
PowerPoint projections in the classroom (both Day School and supplemental
schools.)

I have always preferred this over songsheets, as this way the students are
looking up and have a better chance at seeing me, rather than having their
heads buried in a songsheet.

Advantages of the PowerPoint method are:
you can turn it into overhead transparencies with a computer, printer,
and LaserJet transparency sheets
you can turn it into a self-running slide show and send it home or
e-mail it to parents to use at home.
you can print out the PowerPoint slides as songsheets (although it won't
be neat and compact like a songsheet made from scratch.)

When creating either overheads or PowerPoint slides, keep your font sizes
big. Do not try and get all of one song onto one slide. One verse or one
chorus per slide is maximum.

another option, if you have your own classroom for music as I do at the day
school where I teach, is to use overhead transparancies. The advantages:
1) they don't tear or fall apart 2) I don't have to worry about adding
pages if I have a new song 3) don't have to wait for kids to find the right
page and MOST beneficial - the kids are looking up when they sing instead of
down and I can see who's participating or not and they sound better too. :)
Also, if I have a schoolwide assembly or something I don't need to have
enough books or sheets for 330 kids - just one! the disadvantage is that
they can't take it home to practice... so sometimes I do make songsheets for
that...
