It's funny, the same question just came up on Temple Chat.  I have asked 
a recent Bat Mitzvah to learn to chant her Torah portion ( which happens 
to fall on the 4th this year) on the 1st anniversary of her Bat Mitzvah 
at services and then asked her parents to throw a big oneg and invite 
their friends. Ask the cantor do a musical sermon in song on the topic 
of freedom, maybe with some instrumentalists thrown in.  Prayer, music 
and food--that is a good way to celebrate the 4th.  Have fun!!
