Thank you Burton. Your information is very valuable. I believe, as you have 
stated, that "Hatikvah" did become the anthem by default somehow. Though I 
am not certain. However, it is now recognized as the anthem and is played 
more than "often". It is played every evening in Israel as the television 
closes down at the end of the night's programming. it is played whenever 
the Prime Minister visits a country abroad - or when Israel is visited by a 
higher official from abroad. it is played at every soccer game or sports 
event - the Maccabiah. The list goes on. At this point it really doesn't 
matter how it became Israel's national anthem. The fact is that today it 
IS, without doubt or question, Israel's national anthem and ought to be 
treated with the same respect as any other national anthem in any other 
country.
