[HANASHIR:12880] Re: off music topic/educating the public on Chanukah

Yes this rings a LOUD bell. I have memories of my own elementary school
experience in Kentucky, being the only Jewish student, and presenting a
wonderful Chanukah card which told the whole story in rhyme (wish I still had
that card!) during the annual holiday program. (I vaguely remember one other
part of the same program, which went, "Lucia was a girl who was blind and
cured..." which became a family joke for many years...and unfortunately I
have no idea who Lucia was....)

I don't take the kind of misunderstanding described in some recent posts as
antisemitism as much as just plain ignorance. Sometimes it seems it has been
my job to educate the whole nonJewish world about things Jewish (lectures on
kashrut, Shabbat, Rosh Hashana, etc.). I put out my Chanukah decorations in
my office today and have already gotten several comments. I often give
people my holiday songs recording when they ask a lot of questions. Music is
truly the great eductor.
