[HANASHIR:12548] Re: prof/volunteer choirs



This is good advice, but I would suggest that you see if you have potential 
section leaders within your choir.  You may be surprised at how many 
near-professional singers are hanging out in amateur choirs, just waiting 
for a challenge.  (Or perhaps, they quit the choir because they were 
bored.) If you can find some section leaders instead of professionals you 
get the following benefits:

         1)  Singers who understand and love the music
         2)  Encouraging Jews to be better choir members
         3)  Oh yah, and you don't have to pay them!

The irony I always see is that if I was a non-Jew and took the leadership 
role that I sometimes take in choirs, I would be paid.  But as a Jew I 
don't get paid and I don't get to sing the challenging music I would like 
to sing.
