What an interesting discussion!  Here is my 2 or maybe 3 cents worth....

When my first album came out, I was questioned as to which "side" I was on...I 
had used Hashem in one song, Ad-nai in another...of course, I'm not "on" either 
side!

I plead poetic and spiritual license on this issue...there are so many names 
for G-d used in the Torah...therefore, it seems as if the Eternal is telling 
us, use whichever name is appropriate to the occasion or circumstance....

I am always thrilled to hear others who use some of my songs adapt them to 
their own needs, whether adding a Hebrew word or verse, or changing the name of 
our Creator to one that suits them.

I would love a handy list of "all" the Holy One's names (in Hebrew) and their 
meanings...if anyone has a reference handy....
