[HANASHIR:11943] Re: Which Case Should I Take?

If there is ANY chance at all that the airlines will force you to check your
guitar when you get to the airport, then by all means use the hardshell case.
It's getting harder to predict how airlines will go on this issue -- even
when their agent assures you in advance that your case falls within carry-on
measurements. The only time I KNOW I can get away with bringing a guitar as
carry-on is when it's a "backpacker" type instrument (such as the Martin
backpacker or the Tacoma Papoose, which come in their own padded gig bags).

My main guitar is an Alvarez jumbo that I adore playing! Since it would
really depress me to see it damaged, I am currently in the market for the
best hardshell case I can find.
Although the hardshell case is a bear to carry at large events I think it's
worth the extra peace of mind. And by all means make sure the instrument is
insured, either through your homeowner's/renter's insurance or through some
sort of travel insurance if you're a "frequent flyer" type.

P.S. There's a company that makes a backpack strap device that fits over
hardshell cases, making them easier to haul around. Don't remember the name
but you can try finding them through google or whatever. GOod luck.

Safe travels...
