HI Ellen,
I recently used the following idea for our synagogue's day camp music. I
taught the kids a bunch of songs that use syllables as well as words. I taught
all the syllables first, then added the Hebrew lyrics. They loved them all.
Then, we used most of the song we learned at our camp's Kaballat Shabat
Service. The songs I used were, Chri Biri Bim ( Az ich vell zingen), Dundai,
Isaacson's V'ahavta ( with the la la's) from Avodat Amamit, Silverman/Nelson's
Mi Chamocha with the Ya Ba ba Bim Bams as an introduction. I'm drawing a blank
on the rest at the moment, but, you get the idea. The "hook" were the
non-verbal syllables. They kids loved learning them. Good luck at your
kumzits.
Marsha
