in general, if you've got a decent siddur, just look for the metteg
(the small vertical line below a letter in a word indicating an
accent). If a word has one (or sometimes two), then the word takes
its accent on the syllable(s) indicated. If there is no metteg on a
word, then the word's accent falls on the last syllable. I'd reckon
about 80% of all Hebrew words have their accent on the last syllable.
It really shouldn't be a guessing game, since in most major siddurim,
it is notated with the metteg, although other siddurim use other
symbols in place of the metteg.
