[HANASHIR:7276] Re: calling folks to the Torah

Rick,

I think you just make up a poem...

On Shabbat, the first aliyah is preceded by the gabbai's declaring "V'yazor
v'yagen v'yoshia l'chol hachosim bo, v'nomar: amen. Hakol havu godel
lElohenu utnu kavod latora.". Then, if it is a congregation where being a
kohen matters, and the first oleh is a kohen, you say "kohen, k'rav"
("kohen, approach").

The gabbai calls "yaamod so-and-so ben so-and-so [hakohen or halevi if a
kohen or levi]" for a man. For a woman, the form is "yamdu so-and-so...".
It actually means "arise" or "stand", as in "amida".

After calling the first honoree, the congregation declares "V'atem hadvekim
bAdonai Elohechem, chayim kulchem hayom", and then the gabbai repeats it.
Only the first oleh!

Hope this helps.

Good shabbos,
Andy
