[HANASHIR:7269] Re: Resource ?

Chevre: I am looking for a resource to help out new jewish music educators who
may have the knowledge of "how to play" many of the jewish songs we all use in
our repertoire, but who don't have the experience or knowledge of when they
were written, their meaning, etc. Anyone know of anything that exists besides
the paragraphs that Vel writes when he describes songs? I am NOT looking for
anything too heavy - just something for newer teachers to use to familiarize
themselves with meanings, etc. Thanks.

I love Tom Chapin's Thanksgiving Day (does it count if the songwriter is
Jewish?)

    The chorus goes:

Thanks for our home, thanks for our hearth
And the bounty that grows from the ground
With our loved ones near, we bless the year
    That's brought us safely 'round.

The verses are how we've evolved from farmers to shoppers and now it is our
responsibility to help the hungry, the poor and the homeless, so all may be
able to say:
    Thanks for our home....

You can find it on his "Mother Earth" tape/CD - it has wonderful songs on
it, as do all his CDs.
