[HANASHIR:5998] Re: Taping services at Hava Nashira

Unedited video or audio recordings are of limited value. One simply has to
wade through too much to find what they need. Edited cassettes are a little
more useful, and edited CDs or minidiscs are the most useful.

I also have to comment that it is not the operation of the recorder, but the
worrying about the service running longer than the tape that is the
distraction. I have, at times, put in a tape, and if it ends before the
event, I didn't worry-as participation was more important. If I missed
recording something important, I'll try and find someone else who did get
it, or else not worry too much about it.

I want to reiterate that I have no official capacity at Hava Nashira. I
maintain this list as a service to the Jewish community. I have worked on
staff at OSRUI in the past, and have helped at Hava Nashira, but I do not
speak in any official way for OSRUI.

Also, I think it unfair to characterize Debbie as being responsible for
restrictions against recording. This is a complicated issue, and has far
more nuances, that I can go into here.

All this talk of coordinating volunteers to record various sessions, of
hiring professionals, etc -it's all far more involved than it seems. Let's
all just head out to Oconomowoc to enjoy the camaraderie, to improve our
skills, learn some repertoire, and share in the spirituality and specialness
of the time, place and people.

I think we are getting overly focused on what Hava Nashira can give to us.
Let's try talking about what WE can give to Hava Nashira.
