I may get my head handed to me on a silver platter for saying this, but, in
my humble opinion, s'micha is no guarantee than any rabbi is really a
"rabbi" in a more ethereal than technical sense of the word. It takes more
than s'micha to instill menschlikeit and chochmah and savlanut and chesed
and ahava in a rabbi. As the old joke, paraphrased, goes: the rabbi who
finishes last in his/her class is still called rabbi. I'm sure this was as
true in the days of the Sanhedrin as it is now.

Now, this thread is definitely going astray from Hanashir's prime focus...if
there are objections to it continuing, please voice them to me privately. In
the absence of them, we'll let the discussion continue as a worthwhile one.
