Here is our update with news about Jewish music and new releases. This month we

1. Tanz mit mir - Yiddish Ballroom Dance (Israel)
This is a double CD (one vocal the other instrumental), packed with Yiddish
hits, all in ballroom dance rhythms. You can find here hits such as: shein vi
di levone, belz, yiddishe mamme, zing feigale zing, oyfen preypechik and many
others, 40 in total: tango, waltz, cha cha cha, rumba and twist arrangements.
The double CD includs artists such as the Barry Sisters, Max Perlman, Israel
Itzhaki, The Bursteins and many others.

2. Shir Chadash - A New Song (UK): The Shabbaton Choir, with Lionel Rosenfeld
and
Shimon Craimer.
'Shir Chadash' is a brand new CD which includes a selection of the Shabbaton
Choir's popular concert pieces, in addition to solo tracks from Lionel
Rosenfeld and Shimon Craimer. The choir's mellow sound, sensitive singing and a
deep understanding of the music result in a rich interpretation of
tefilot (prayers). Many of the choir's inspiring and innovative compositions
and arrangements are by Stephen Glass.

3. Hallelu: The London Cantorial Singers (UK)
The London Cantorial Singers were formed by Ian Lyons in 1995, in order to
promote and perpetuate his love of traditional liturgical music. Beautiful
sounding choir performing 20 musical items mainly selected from Synagogue
Services throughout the year. Chazanim Henry Black and David Shine.

4. Re-release The Four Brothers (UK)
Moshe, Jacob, Simcha and David Koussevitzky in a programme presented by Reuben
Turner to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Moshe Koussevitzky.
80 minutes of great Cantorial singing.

5. Carl Nelkin - Irish Heart - Jewish soul (Ireland)
This album presents a selection of favourite Irish and Jewish songs featuring
melodies from the Yiddish theatre. Most of the songs are very old and many are
no longer heard in public. Unique Irish interpretations of Jewish songs which
employ traditional Irish musical instruments to interpret the texts. Released

6. Klezmer Conservatory Band: A Taste of Paradise (USA)
More than 20 years after its birth, the KCB, celebrating the evolution of
Yiddish music in America, with its links to the Yiddish theatre, swing and big
band, still remains one of the most popular groups of the klezmer revival. This
new recording released at the end of 2003 includes the following songs: A
Fishele; Sabbath Prayer; A Glezele Yash/Di Kleyne Printsessin; Az Der Rebe
Elimeylekh; Sholem Tants; Rejoicing.

7. Lieder fun Boydem - Songs from the Attic (Israel)
A new series of 10 CDs (4 CDs released so far) featuring 150 Yiddish songs from
around the world, a magnificent testament to the richness of Yiddish culture.
Original recordings from 78s from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Some of the
background noise of the original recordings has remained. Released end 2003

8. Vessel of Song - The Music of Mikhl Gelbart (USA)
The Lori Cahan-Simon Ensemble
Gelbart, born in Poland in 1889, set to music the works of about 120 poets and
dramatists, composing some twenty books of Yiddish songs. His songs have been
recorded or sung by just about every singer of Yiddish song. His music
instantly took on folk status, thought to have been composed anonymously and to
have been in the repertoire from time immemorial. Released 2003
