It would be wonderful if such a position were to go to a Jewish music
specialist and I'd encourage folks younger than myself to apply, but I'm
pretty confident that the preference will be for one of the groups (of color)
actually listed in the job description, particularly given the mention of jazz
and the African Diaspora, the latter which I don't think refers to those Jews
who have made their home in Africa. There are a handful of Jewish music
specialists (including some very prominent scholars) holding ethnomusicology
positions in American universities (and perhaps some in musicology jobs), but
I've never known one to be hired into a position that specifies American
racial and ethnic groups. My own position, btw, originated in theory and
composition, though I've branched out some.
