Plucked String Offerings at KlezKamp, December 23-29 2003

There is still time to register (but hurry!) for KlezKamp: The 19th Annual
Yiddish Folk Arts Program, which will take place from December 23-29, 2003, in
Swan Lake, NY.

Special offerings for plucked string players include:

Plucked String Instrument Class

Open to all players of plucked string instruments (guitar, mandolin, etc.).
We’ll work on techniques especially applicable to playing klezmer
instrumental music on plucked string instruments in ensemble and solo settings,
and
(depending on the participants’ interests) accompanying Yiddish vocal styles.

Mandolin Orchestra (Singers Welcome!)

This ensemble is designed for intermediate/advanced players of any plucked or
struck string instrument: mandolin, guitar, string bass, tsimbl, etc., as
well as for singers. We’ll work partly by ear, and partly from written
arrangements created especially for this year’s group.

The instructor for both these classes will be Jeff Warschauer.

Jeff Warschauer is internationally renowned as a mandolinist, guitarist,
Yiddish singer and teacher. He is a member of the Strauss/Warschauer Duo and
was
a long-time member of the Klezmer Conservatory Band. Jeff is on the faculty
of Columbia University, a program director for KlezKanada, a long-time
instructor at KlezKamp and a frequent instructor for the Jewish Music
Institute/SOAS
at the University of London. He is also a composer whose music has been heard
in films and theater productions, on Public Radio International and on HBO.
Jeff's solo CD, The Singing Waltz: Klezmer Guitar and Mandolin, has received
widespread critical acclaim.
