In the current issue of "Alumni News" of he Bronx H.S. of Science, appears
the following under the headline, "Steve Karman '54 recalls classmate Bobby
Darin in New book, "Me an BobbyD."
Steve's older brother Arthur, a physician and professor of pathology at
Albert Einstein College of Medicine, graduated from Science in 1946, so
although Steve was accepted at the HS of Music and Art, his parents
insisted that he attend Bronx Science,, to follow a professional career
path: "I can see the headline now: NICE JEWISH BOY WANTS TO BECOME A
MUSICIAN --MOTHER HAS HEART ATTACK!" Actually, both mother and son escaped
from that fate. Karman, after a time in the Darin band, entered the
advertising world as a jingle writer, for example, "When you've said
Budweiser, you've said it all."
