In this context it's also worth mentioning Moshe Berlin's work in Israel. 
It has followed a different evolutionary path, but it is very much based on 
traditions going back hundreds of years and has none of the Americanisms 
that are part of much of American klezmer. It is also wonderful music.

I also want to mention Di Naye Kapelye. While Khevrise sounds more like 
chamber music, Di Naye Kapelye is very much a (to my ears) successful 
revival of that pre-American-klezmer party-time heft.
