The new issue of Sing Out! Magazine, which includes several reviews of
klezmer and Yiddish recordings and books, should be arriving in mailboxes
and on newsstands this week. It is the Fall 2003 issue, Vol. 47, No. 3, and
it features Natalie Merchant on the cover (apparently she is taking on
traditional folk music).
CDs reviewed in this issue, most of them reviewed by yours truly, include
those by Paul Shapiro, Ben Perowsky, Rob Burger, The Burning Bush, Flying
Bulgar Klezmer Band, Metropolitan Klezmer, Isle of Klezbos, Divahn, and
Theodore Bikel. There is also a review of Yale Strom's "Book of Klezmer."
At some point in the near future, all these reviews will also be posted on
my website.

culturally significant about klezmer; better yet, he captures the music's
fun."
