There was an interesting overview article called, "Kol Ishah - The Voice of 
Woman: Where Was It Heard in Medieval Europe?", Emily Taitz, Convervative 
Judaism, Vol. 38(3), Spring 1986, pp. 46-61. I obtained a .PDF copy via ILL 
and would be happy to share it with anyone who is interested. Contact me
