Correct, Josh! Now, run with it! Maybe Guzikow
wasn´t famous at all for his "klezmerheit"!
Contemporary critics wrote that Guzikow earned fame
for his appearance, his virtuosity, his stage persona,
but more than anything, the novelty of his instrument.
The music per se played but a small role in his
performances, and Vienna´s critic Saphir demeaned
Guzikow´s choice of program as being too "common"
for such an "extraordinary" personality. Maybe
the audience paid for and enjoyed the
Gesamtkunstlerwerk, and not just the sounds!?
