Lecture/Recital: The Pianist Speaks; a personal perspective of Jewish
composers and performers behind the Iron Curtain, by guest pianist Tamas
Vesmas. (Wednesday, March 12 at 5:15PM in Weigel Hall Auditorium, 1866
College Rd., OSU Campus)

Tamas Vesmas is Professor of Piano at the University of Auckland, Auckland,
New Zealand and one of Romania's leading concert pianists. He will perform
works of Jan Radzynski and Alfred Shnittke featuring "Five Aphorisms" by
based on poems by Brodsky. The poems will be recited on stage in the
original Russian text. He will also discuss the plight of Jewish composers
and performers who lived and toiled under the communist regimes of Eastern
Europe, particularly Hungary and Romania. An ethnic Hungarian growing up in
Romania, he was persecuted as a minority.

Co-sponsored by the School of Music, the Melton Center for Jewish Studies,
and the Center for Slavic and East European Studies at OSU.  No tickets
required.  Free and open to the public.
