  Fred, that's an argument for the wrong side of the debate. 
  Yes, Miriam's singing was clearly only for the women. Exodus 15:20-21.

  It can be interpreted that way, but not necessarily.  Verse 21 begins (in the 
Plaut translation) "And Miriam chanted for them..."  Plaut comments that"for 
them" is in the masculine form in the Hebrew, but that form is sometimes used 
for women too."
