It is list policy that all matters not pertaining to Jewish music be handled
elsewhere. The main reason is that reasonable people can disagree passionately
and articulately about any issue, especially those that matter the most to us
and seem least arguable. Most political issues fall squarely in the "not
pertaining to Jewish music" category.
This list is kept separate as a place to discuss (and where necessary, to
disagree passionately) about Jewish music. As a commons, _that_ purpose becomes
denied otherwise.
In a perfect world, all discussion might be welcome in all places. For now, in
this world, this is one of the limits I enforce, the better to enable the
list's purpose--that there be a place where love of and interest in Jewish
music are the prime motivator.
I'll also wander slightly off-topic and note that it is almost never acceptable
to send a petition or other mass-mailing item (most often considered spam,
regardless of the good intent behind it) to a mailing list not explicitly
devoted to the subject of the mailing.
