Re: Bukhara Jews



If memory serves, a number of the "Oriental" Jewish cultures were closely 
tied, at least musically, to their surrounding cultures.  Many borrowed 
melodies and rest lyrics or psalms to them.  Part of the great cultural 
exchange, as it were.

An interesting film documents this, including the Buhkharan culture, called 
Chants of Sands and Stars.
